As is customary every year, I decided to look back on this past year. I’ll summarize my research life, part-time jobs, hobbies, etc. by category. This year marks the end of my student life. However, with my master’s thesis and journal papers remaining, it looks like I’ll be busy even after the new year. I’ll be moving to the Kanto region starting in April next year. I haven’t been to UFJ, Takarazuka, or Tsutenkaku yet, so I’d like to visit them at least once while I’m in Kansai.
Research
This year, I presented at two international conferences. The first was a conference held in Greece. Specifically, it was PDP2016 held in Heraklion, a city in northern Crete, Greece. This was my first overseas presentation since joining the lab. My presentation was in the latter half of the conference overall, I think. I presented in poor English for about 15 minutes. However, the Q&A session was skipped due to time constraints, so I don’t know if it was properly conveyed. Between travels, I visited the Knossos ruins, the Parthenon, the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, and the Temple of Zeus.
The second was SC16, a conference held in Salt Lake City in November. I presented at a workshop. This time, I received three questions or comments, but I couldn’t answer them properly. Even when I had something to say, I couldn’t produce the English. I didn’t have much time for sightseeing, but I was able to listen to an organ recital at Temple Square in the city center. On the return trip, there was trouble when the flight from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles was delayed due to engine trouble or something.
Besides that, I presented at SWoPP2016 held in Matsumoto City. I participated with a junior and presented. Additionally, a senior participated to receive an award and we talked together at the social gathering.

Part-time Job
I continued to work as a part-timer at a company in Umeda that I’ve been with for about three years. This year, in addition to developing the service itself, I was working on organizing peripheral tools. First, I built a CDN (Contents Delivery Network) to deliver thumbnail images, etc. I performed image processing with Nginx and its modules and distributed them with Amazon CloudFront. Next, I set up an environment to collect various logs with Elasticsearch. Logs from Amazon RDS, PHP, Nginx, etc. can now be collected and searched. Finally, I replaced jobs managed by cron with Rundeck management. It has a redundant configuration by storing job execution logs in Amazon S3 and project settings in Amazon RDS.
Idols
I went to several live performances, mainly Syachihoko and Apga. I was very satisfied with Syachihoko members changing their hair color and incorporating neglected songs into the setlist. Apga held their first Budokan live. According to the final greeting, they’re apparently recruiting 2nd generation members.

Motorcycle
Since I ride almost every day, problems gradually appeared. I sequentially replaced the oil, filter, tires, battery, spark plugs, chain, and sprocket. In addition, I installed motorcycle ETC.
Other
I watched the inaugural match at Suita Stadium. Ademilson and Fujimoto transferred in, and FW Goya and DF Hatsuse came up from the youth team. Also, Usami transferred to Bundesliga’s FC Augsburg midway through.
This year, I participated in CODE FESTIVAL, an on-site competitive programming contest. I completed 4 problems from A to D for 1500 points. The hoodie line was 1600 points, so I didn’t reach it. International competitors participated from this year. tourist was overwhelming. On-site contests are really fun.
