On March 12, 2017 (Sunday), I participated in the Noto Wakura Manyo no Sato Marathon 2017 held in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It was my first full marathon. The large elevation changes were a disadvantage, but since the course circled around Nanao West Bay, I could fully enjoy nature including fishing ports, mountains, the sea, and bridges. Furthermore, I enjoyed Noto-madon (a bowl with oysters) and rice balls, and the temperature and weather were just right, making the entire experience pleasant.

I’ll record the split times and lap times every 5km. My pace gradually slowed down and wasn’t stable. There were 11 hills from the early to middle stages, and I think I ran too fast there, getting carried away. At the 20km point, my right foot sole started hurting, but it became easier after removing the insole, so I continued running. After that, around the 30km point, it suddenly became difficult even to walk, so I walked while resting. As a result, my ranking was 3,096th out of 5,152 people. By the way, in the half marathon I participated in last December, my time was 1:47:54, so it doesn’t work out with simple calculations—that’s my impression.

  • 05km 00:36:55
  • 10km 01:06:53 (29:58)
  • 15km 01:38:46 (31:53)
  • 20km 02:12:33 (33:47)
  • 25km 02:55:19 (42:46)
  • 30km 03:42:12 (46:53)
  • 35km 04:32:00 (49:48)
  • 40km 05:22:07 (50:07)
  • Finish 05:41:03

The day before, I traveled to the venue area using the Seishun 18 Ticket and stayed overnight. After the marathon, I soaked in a hot spring and returned to Osaka via the Thunderbird express. If I have another opportunity, I’d like to stay an extra night.
