After playing Civilization VI once with a friend, it seems I won’t be able to win as is, so I’ll do some research. This game is a series of choices, so if you proceed casually without knowing the mechanism, it seems difficult to win. This is just notes that a beginner is writing for themselves, so please understand. If you want to know more details, please see CIVILIZATION VI wiki.

First, from map options, set to display grid, resource icons, and yield icons. Resources that strengthen the city itself are food and production. By increasing food, population increases, and by increasing production, it leads to producing districts and buildings. Production can be obtained by workers creating mines. Gold, science, and culture can be obtained from markets (Commercial Hub district), libraries (Campus district), and amphitheaters (Theater Square district).

Aztec, America, Sumer, Nubia, Rome, Cree, and Inca, which are advantageous in early battles, are suitable for beginners. Nubia, Egypt, Mali, Russia, Canada, England, Indonesia, Spain, Norway, Netherlands, Phoenicia, Maori, etc., which have quirks in initial placement, are difficult. Also, civilizations that are religion-focused or require special playing are not suitable. Germany seems easy to handle. The unique district Hansa is simply strong. Build districts in the order of Hansa > Campus > Commercial Hub.

In the early game, proceed with scout, worker, warrior, and settler. If a city is adjacent to a river or lake, it gets +3 housing, so consider well. Among units, chariots (later tanks) and archers (later field cannons) are strong. Hilly terrain has powerful production, so aim for it when creating cities. After creating a city, you can manually decide which tile to place citizens on in citizen management, so it’s good to review regularly. Don’t use workers carelessly; just let them sleep until needed. Citizen +2 housing is required, and if it falls below that, a penalty occurs and city growth is hindered. Traders are powerful, so if you can make them, prioritize making them. Ancient era wonders, Pyramids and Temple of Artemis are strong. In later eras, Petra, Colosseum, Alhambra, Chichen Itza, Great Zimbabwe, Forbidden City, Potala Palace, Venetian Arsenal, and Big Ben are strong.

During war, don’t stop reinforcing troops until you win. The opponent should also be concentrating on troop production. When making ranged attacks, if movement is 1 or more remaining, attack is possible, so fight with hit and run.

Other

  • Early exploration is important
  • Division of roles in cities
  • There is no city number penalty, so simply creating a large number of cities is strong
  • Since city population is limited by housing number, emphasis on production per 1 population rather than food
  • If there are 3 mountains, create a Campus district
  • Early production with hills and mines
  • Steal wonders
  • Sell luxury resources
